TOPIC： Should more be done to eliminate world hunger?
POINTS： * Climate change * Genetically modified crops * Fair trade * International aid * Transfer of technology * War
While the birth rate in developed country is decreasing dramatically, the number of world population has been growing rapidly and this undoubtedly does bring serious problems of world hunger. In my opinion, we should deal with eradicating global starvation further.
To begin with, climate change has to do with compounding the situation. Global warming causes droughts and catastrophic storms in formerly productive agricultural areas, resulting in production failure, less nutrition for ourselves and affects the earning capacity. This exacerbates hardships, especially in developing country.
Another reason is that most of the agricultural systems in emergent nations lack technology. One example to ameliorate this is for the industrialized country to transfer the technology to those areas such as the knowledge of irrigation systems. Since traditional farmers rely only on sporadic rainfall to plant crops, this technique would increase agricultural production dramatically.
Finally, enhancement of productivity is not enough to erase famine in all over the world. As a consequence of globalization, some of multi national companies exploit the poor countries to make huge profit, using unjust trade rule. Therefore, farmers' wages are not improving. However, fair trade can be a solution if advance countries wouldn't make unfair rules, it is one way for the poor countries to make money to obtain sufficient food.
For the reasons above, I believe that more should be done to abolish world hunger. Not only in developing countries but also advanced nations benefit from tackling the world poverty and hunger to secure stable food supply for everyone.
