Although it seems that there is sufficient water in urban cities, most of water on the planet is not available to us. In my opinion, this situation is expected to exacerbate in the future.
My primary reason is that climate change will burgeon the frequency and severity of droughts. This will affect the availability of water resources due to lessening amount of water in lakes and groundwater. In addition, sea levels worldwide has been rising which means freshwater in the ground is diminishing. It is clear that water quantity for human use will decrease.
Another reason is the anticipated water scarcity which is a substantial problem for agricultural practices while world population has been escalating drastically. The water use for agriculture accounts for 70 % of all water usage. Additionally, the booming demand for livestock in particular is expanding the demand for water.
Finally, household consumption is surging dramatically thanks to global economic growth. Apart from the simple increase in population, people consume more water as people utilize modern luxuries, such as showers and washing machines that contributes to the drying of freshwater underground.
In conclusion, I am confident that global demand for water is set to exceed the supply. An approach to water supply and management would be more essential in the near future.
